Stability
Stability
Section titled “Stability”A body remains stable as long as the vertical line passing through the centre of gravity passes through the base of support. If the line falls outside the base, the body will topple.
Factors Affecting Stability
- Base area – larger base area increases stability.
- Position of the centre of mass/centre of gravity – lower position increases stability.
Lower centre of gravity and wider base objects are more stable. A stable object is hard to push over.
