Scientific Notation / Standard Form

$$M \times 10^n$$

• $M$ is the coefficient ($1 \leq |M| < 10$)
• 10 is the base
• $n$ is the exponent or power of 10

Examples

1. $500.03$ cm = $500.03$ m = $5.0003 \times 10^2$ m (usually $5.0 \times 10^2$)
2. $3.68$ g = $3.68 \times 10^-3$ kg
