Uses of Density

1. Flotation
   • An object less dense than water floats.
   • Applied in making ships.
2. Sinking
   • An object more dense than water sinks.

Mass and Weight

$$\text{Weight} = \text{Mass} \times \text{Acceleration due to Gravity} \quad (mg)$$

• On Earth: $g = 9.8$ N/kg
• On Moon: $g = 1.67$ N/kg

Sources of Uncertainty (when measuring volume)

1. Water sticks to wall of the measuring cylinder
2. Some water may spill
